Himachal Pradesh currently undergoing biggest local bodies poll in the state as including four Muncipal Corporations including Solan, Dharmshala, Mandi and Palampur election process is on in 51 Urban local bodies.
A total of 1,147 candidates remain in the fray for elections to 51 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Himachal Pradesh after the completion of scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers on Wednesday.
According to the State Election Commission, 237 candidates withdrew their nominations, while 32 nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny. Polling for the civic bodies elections will be held on May 17 from 7 am to 3 pm through EVMs.
The Commission said that altogether 1,426 nomination papers were filed across the state, out of which 1,394 were found valid. Following withdrawals, 1,147 candidates are now contesting the elections. Ten candidates have already been declared elected unopposed in different municipal wards.
District-wise breakup of candidates in the fray and withdrawals is as follows:
Bilaspur: 87 candidates in fray after 6 withdrawals.
Chamba: 72 candidates in fray after 40 withdrawals.
Hamirpur: 44 candidates in fray after 9 withdrawals.
Kangra: 218 candidates in fray after 49 withdrawals.
Kullu: 100 candidates in fray after 14 withdrawals.
Mandi: 180 candidates in fray after 23 withdrawals.
Shimla: 123 candidates in fray after 39 withdrawals.
Sirmaur: 84 candidates in fray after 5 withdrawals.
Solan: 121 candidates in fray after 34 withdrawals.
Una: 118 candidates in fray after 18 withdrawals.

The State Election Commission also announced that 10 candidates were elected unopposed. These include Ward No. 3 of Nagar Panchayat Chuwari in Chamba district; Ward No. 2 and Ward No. 6 of Nagar Panchayat Jawalamukhi in Kangra district; Ward No. 1 of Nagar Panchayat Jogindernagar and Ward No. 1 of Nagar Panchayat Rewalsar in Mandi district; Ward Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6 of Nagar Panchayat Rekong Peo and Ward No. 2 of Nagar Panchayat Theog in Shimla district.
The Commission further informed that no nomination paper was filed for Ward No. 7 of Nagar Panchayat Karsog in Mandi district. Similarly, in Ward No. 14 of the Mandi Municipal Corporation, four nomination papers were initially received but all candidates withdrew their nominations. Fresh nominations for these seats will now be invited.
