17-Yr-old drowns in Kangra
Jawali (Kangra), June 9
A 17-year-old Class XII student drowned in a seasonal stream in Kangra district’s Jawali subdivision on Monday, triggering grief in his village and surrounding areas.
According to information, Vansh, a resident of Kadiyal village, had left home along with two friends to get a domestic LPG cylinder refilled. After they were unable to get the cylinder filled at the gas agency, the three youths reportedly went to a nearby khad to bathe and seek relief from the heat.
During the outing, Vansh is said to have ventured into deeper waters and was swept away. Witnesses said he began struggling in the strong current. His friends made efforts to rescue him but could not succeed due to the depth of the water and the force of the flow.
Local residents rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and managed to pull the teenager out of the water. He was immediately taken to Civil Hospital Jawali for treatment. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
The sudden death of the young student has left his family devastated. The incident has also cast a pall of gloom over Kadiyal village and nearby areas, where residents expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy.

The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of bathing in deep water bodies, particularly during the summer season when many youngsters visit rivers, khads and reservoirs to escape the heat. Local residents have urged people to exercise caution near water bodies and called for greater awareness about water safety to prevent such incidents.
Police are reported to have initiated proceedings in the matter.
