Shimla, May 18
A joyous celebration turned into a tragedy on Saturday as Anurag Chauhan, a lively 19-year-old from Kilor, lost his life to the powerful currents of the Tons River, a tributary of the Yamuna.
Anurag had chosen to celebrate his birthday with friends by the river, hoping to escape the intense 42-degree heat. The group looked forward to a day filled with laughter and fun by the water.
As the sun beat down, the day was full of joy and splashing in the cool river. However, the happiness turned to horror when Anurag was suddenly caught in the river’s strong currents. Despite his friends’ frantic efforts to save him, they could not reach him in time.
The State Disaster Response Force was quickly called, and after searching the turbulent waters, they found Anurag’s lifeless body. The Paonta police returned him to his grieving family.
Anurag, the cherished son of Shyam Singh Chauhan, had a bright future ahead. His tragic death highlights the hidden dangers of the Tons River, which has claimed many lives before due to its unpredictable currents.
