Amid discussions on improving the financial condition and rationalization of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB), allegations of financial irregularities in contractor payments have come to light. The Joint Front of HPSEB employees has claimed that arbitrary payments amounting to lakhs of rupees were made to contractors, exploiting the board’s precarious financial state.

In a media communique the Joint Front has urged the Chief Minister to order an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities. They allege that the push for rationalization within the board is an attempt to mask these financial mismanagements.
The Chief Minister had earlier assured the Joint Front that any rationalization process would only proceed after consultations. However, the Joint Front claims that the board’s management has prepared proposals without their input, violating this assurance.
“If any rationalization is undertaken without discussions, we will launch a statewide agitation,” warned Lokesh Thakur of the Joint Front. Adding, that rationalization efforts, if necessary, should begin at the top levels of the organization.
The Joint Front plans to convene its state committee soon to finalize the format of its agitation and further measures, they informed. They also intend to advise the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure transparency in the rationalization process.
