Rs 266 Cr Scholarship scam: CBI files two chargesheets in court

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has today filed two separate supplementary chargesheets in an ongoing investigation of a case related to Rs 266 Crore Scholarship Scam in Himachal Pradesh before the Competent Court against 10 accused (06+04 accused) including private persons and Directors of the Educational institutions and employees and officials of Directorate of Higher Education(DHE), Government of Himachal Pradesh respectively.

According to a Spokesperson, the CBI had registered the instant case on 07/05/2019 against unknown persons on the request of Himachal Pradesh Government and had taken over the investigation of FIR No.0133 dated 16th November, 2018, earlier registered at Police Station East Shimla on the allegations of misappropriation of scholarship claims of Rs. 266 Crores( approx.).
It was further alleged that the said educational Institutions had claimed false scholarships and fee reimbursements under the garb of SC,ST,OBC students from the Education Department of Himachal Pradesh Government in conspiracy with the concerned officials of the Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh and misappropriated huge funds of the Government.
28 Institutions were identified who had claimed approx 90 per cent of the total scholarship amount.
Searches were earlier conducted at around 30 places at the premises of certain persons & others which led to recovery of incriminating documents. 19 accused including Chairman/Vice-Chairman/ Directors /Employees of the Educational Institutes, bank officials & officials of Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla were arrested.
After investigation, CBI had earlier filed 08 chargesheets in the matter of 16 Institutions. 78 accused, including owners of Institutions, officials of Directorate of Higher Education, Shimla and bank officials, were chargesheeted. Further investigation is continuing.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
