Shimla, Oct 16,
The Government of Himachal Pradesh has announced a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. This raises the existing DA rate from 38% to 42%, effective from October 1, 2024. The decision, announced through an official memorandum from the Finance Department, will benefit employees governed by the Himachal Pradesh Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2022.
The new DA will be paid in cash with the October 2024 salary, which is due on October 28, 2024. Employees will also receive arrears accruing from January 1, 2023, with a separate order detailing the method of disbursement. This increment will extend to officers of All India Services as well as employees covered under UGC pay scales.
For employees under the New Pension Scheme (NPS), the regulation of DA will be handled by separate orders issued periodically. The government has also clarified that fractions of 50 paise and above will be rounded off to the nearest rupee, while amounts below 50 paise will be ignored.
The latest DA hike is in line with the state’s efforts to alleviate the impact of inflation on government employees.
Noteworthy that on Dusshera eve October 11, Himachal CM Sukhu had announced the 4% DA hike plus additional financial benefits for 3.5 lakh state employees and retirees, costing Rs 600 crore annually.
In view of the Diwali festival the government has also announced release of salary and pension on October 28, instead of November 1 and November 9 respectively.
Pertinent to mention that even the dearness allowance for central government employees will rise from 50 percent to 53 percent of the basic pay, as per an announcement reported today.
