Shimla, Oct 23,
A major environmental scandal is brewing in the state as five construction companies involved in the Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane project face criminal charges for illegal dumping practices. Local forest officials have accused the companies of dumping excavated soil onto forest department land, leading to severe environmental and water pollution.
According to the complaint filed by the Forest Division Officer, Swahan Range Swarghat Forest Division, the construction companies have been engaging in this practice since 2012. The excavated soil has been dumped unscientifically near toll barriers and in areas adjacent to the Govind Sagar lake, causing pollution to local water bodies.
The forest department has repeatedly raised concerns about the environmental impact of these actions, but the companies have allegedly continued their practices despite warnings. The matter is now being investigated by the Swarghat police station, and the companies could face significant legal consequences if found guilty.
This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter environmental regulations and enforcement measures in the state. The government must take decisive action to prevent further damage to the environment and hold accountable those responsible for such irresponsible behavior.
