Himachal Pradesh is reeling under an intense cold wave following recent snowfall, with temperatures dipping five to seven degrees below normal in several regions.
Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti recorded the coldest temperature at a bone-chilling minus 12.7 degrees Celsius. Keylong, the district headquarters, reported minus 9 degrees, while Kukukseri registered minus 8.3 degrees. Kalpa in Kinnaur experienced a low of minus 5.4 degrees, and Samdho recorded minus 7.4 degrees.
Popular tourist destinations also saw a significant drop in temperatures. Manali in Kullu district recorded minus 2.5 degrees, Kufri registered minus 2.2 degrees, and Narkanda dipped to minus 3.4 degrees. Seobagh and Bhuntar in Kullu recorded 2.4 degrees and minus 1.4 degrees, respectively.
The minimum temperatures in Palampur and Shimla stood at 0 and 1 degrees, marking a decline of seven and five degrees below normal for Kangra and Shimla districts, respectively. Hamirpur registered 0.2 degrees, five degrees below normal, while Solan recorded minus 0.6 degrees, a drop of 4.3 degrees below normal. Other notable temperatures included Chamba at 1 degree, Dharamshala at 3.9 degrees, Nahan at 4.9 degrees, Una at 0.4 degrees, and Mandi at 1.4 degrees. Kangra and Bilaspur reported 2 and 3 degrees, respectively, with a four-degree deviation below normal.
Light snowfall was reported in Koksar (Lahaul-Spiti) and Kalpa (Kinnaur), adding to the chill. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted mainly dry weather across the state over the next 24 hours.
Dense fog is also likely to affect areas near the Bhakra Dam reservoir in Bilaspur and the Balh Valley in Mandi during early morning, morning, and late-night hours, potentially impacting visibility and travel conditions.
