Shimla, Aug 26,
All government and private educational institutions in Shimla, including schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, anganwadis and nursing institutes, will remain closed today following continuous heavy rainfall and fresh warnings of more downpour.
The decision was announced by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap (IAS), citing student safety amid landslides, tree falls, and blocked roads.
The IMD’s morning radar warning at 6 a.m. predicted moderate rainfall over the next 2–3 hours in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Kullu districts, with heavy rain possible at a few locations. Light to moderate showers are also expected in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Lahaul-Spiti, while Kinnaur may see isolated light rain.
Authorities have urged residents and students to remain cautious as rainfall activity is likely to continue through the day.
