Shimla, Dec 28,
A long-running land dispute involving international wrestling icon and former WWE Champion The Great Khali has taken a decisive turn in favour of his family, with local authorities upholding their ownership claim after examining revenue records. The development has triggered renewed scrutiny of alleged manipulation within the revenue system — an issue affecting thousands of ordinary landholders in Himachal Pradesh.
The case concerns ancestral land belonging to Khali’s late father in the state, which was allegedly transferred through irregular means with the involvement of then revenue officials. Sources familiar with the matter said that entries in land records were tampered with to facilitate the transfer to another party, raising serious concerns about abuse of authority and the vulnerability of landowners to document-based fraud.

Responding to complaints filed by the family, the district administration initiated action and ordered a time-bound inquiry. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate has constituted a four-member investigation team — including a retired Naib Tehsildar, a retired Kanungo, and a serving Kanungo and Patwari from different revenue circles — to ensure there is no local influence or conflict of interest in the probe. Officials clarified that the investigation will be extensive, relying on original records, mutation history, and testimony from both sides.
To maintain procedural fairness, both parties have been directed to submit all relevant documents before the inquiry begins. In case either side is unable to produce complete records immediately, they may seek a reasonable extension from senior officers so that the investigation reaches a legally sound conclusion.
While a detailed probe continues, preliminary examination of existing documents has clearly supported the claim of Khali’s family, strengthening their legal standing and offering much-needed relief after what has reportedly been a prolonged battle.
The development has resonated strongly with the public, not just because of Khali’s stature as a global sports figure, but because land disputes involving alleged misconduct by revenue officials are a recurring concern in rural Himachal. Analysts say that the case sends a cautionary message to those who may exploit systemic loopholes for personal gain, while also underscoring the need for greater transparency in the management of land records.
For Khali’s family, the latest decision marks a significant milestone — a validation of their rightful claim. For the state, it has reignited a larger conversation about accountability in the revenue department and the importance of safeguarding the property rights of citizens, whether famous or not.
