Himachal Pradesh recorded an overwhelming response in the ongoing nomination process for the three-tier Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections, with a cumulative total of 42,562 nomination papers filed across the state in the first two days, the State Election Commission said on Friday.
According to the Commission, as many as 25,671 candidates submitted their nomination papers on the second day of filing on Friday, significantly higher than the 16,891 nominations received on the opening day on Thursday.
The State Election Commission, in an official press release, stated that Kangra district registered the highest number of nominations on the second day with 5,989 candidates filing papers. Mandi district followed with 4,180 nominations, while Shimla witnessed 2,675 nominations. Chamba recorded 2,581 nominations, Una 1,941 and Sirmaur 1,797 nominations.
Other districts also reported substantial participation, including Solan with 1,543 nominations, Hamirpur 1,548, Kullu 1,504 and Bilaspur 1,281 nominations. Tribal districts Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti registered 423 and 209 nominations respectively.

Officials said the large turnout of candidates reflected heightened political activity and keen interest among rural communities in the Panchayati Raj elections.
The Commission further stated that Saturday would be the last date for filing nomination papers. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 12, while candidates can withdraw their papers till May 15.
Polling for the PRI elections would be conducted in three phases on May 26, 28 and 30 through ballot papers across the state.
