Shimla, Jan 24,
Even as large parts of Himachal Pradesh continue to struggle with snow-related disruptions, the state government on Friday issued a fresh advisory warning of another spell of heavy snowfall and rainfall between January 26 and 28 under the influence of an active Western Disturbance. The advisory, issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) on the basis of an India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin, cautions that isolated spells of intense precipitation could further impact snow-bound and adjoining areas, aggravating risks of road blockages, power outages and disruption of essential services.
In view of the forecast, all district administrations have been directed to activate District Emergency Operation Centres on a 24×7 basis for continuous monitoring and coordination. The government has asked authorities to review and update contingency and evacuation plans, particularly for snow-bound regions, flood-prone districts and low-lying urban areas, and to ensure that timely and standardised public warnings reach residents, commuters and tourists.
Departments dealing with critical infrastructure have been placed on high alert. The Public Works Department has been instructed to ensure the availability and strategic deployment of snow clearance machinery to minimise road closures and enable swift restoration of connectivity.
Emergency response teams have been told to remain in readiness for immediate restoration of roads and other vital infrastructure affected by snowfall or rain.
The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited has also been directed to keep its teams on standby for rapid restoration of power supply and to ensure adequate backup arrangements for essential services.
The advisory further directs the Jal Shakti Vibhag to ensure uninterrupted water and sanitation services, especially in high-risk and snow-affected areas.
The Police and Tourism Departments have been asked to regulate traffic on snow-bound routes, issue travel advisories to prevent tourists from venturing into vulnerable zones, and coordinate with transport authorities to manage commuter safety during the adverse weather period.
The state government has urged the public to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during the wet spell, and strictly follow official advisories, warning that weather conditions in higher reaches may deteriorate rapidly over the next few days.
