Shimla, Dec 14,
As part of the Himachal Pradesh government’s intensified campaign against drug abuse, a large-scale Anti-Chitta Walkathon will be organised in Hamirpur on December 16, 2025, with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu leading the public movement. The initiative is being organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police under a statewide drive aimed at making the state drug-free.
According to a press note issued by the State Police Department, the walkathon is part of a broader public awareness and participation campaign against the growing menace of chitta (synthetic drugs). The Chief Minister has appealed to citizens across the state to actively join the movement, stating that drug abuse not only destroys the future of youth but also weakens the social, economic and moral fabric of society. He stressed that eliminating the problem requires sustained collective effort.
The Director General of Police, Ashok Tiwari, reviewed preparations for the event in Hamirpur and emphasised that the goal of a “Chitta-Free Himachal” can only be achieved through the combined participation of youth, parents, teachers, social organisations and the general public. He urged residents of Hamirpur to turn out in large numbers to make the event a success, adding that zippered jackets and caps will be provided to participants.
As per the programme schedule, the Chief Minister will arrive at Government Senior Secondary School, Hamirpur at 10:00 am, followed by the singing of Vande Mataram and administration of the Anti-Chitta pledge. The walkathon will be flagged off at 10:45 am and will conclude at the Police Line Ground around 11:15 am, where the Chief Minister will address participants. Media interaction and refreshments will follow.
In view of the event, Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur, Balbir Singh, announced special traffic arrangements and temporary restrictions to ensure safety and smooth movement. On December 16, vehicular traffic towards Shimla, Sujanpur, Jahu, Nadaun and other routes will be temporarily stopped or diverted at points including Anu Chowk, Pakka Bharo, Pakka Bharo Bypass, Nalti Bypass, Old RTO Office Bypass and Mattan Siddh. An alternative route via Dosarka–Mattansidh–Bypass–Pakka Bharo–Anu has been suggested. The Bus Stand–Dosarka road is expected to remain affected until the walkathon concludes.
Designated drop-off points have been identified for participants arriving from different directions, while parking arrangements have been made at Polytechnic College, Badu Ground. Vehicles will be parked in a phased manner once the walkathon enters the Police Line area.
The Himachal Pradesh Police and District Administration have appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic regulations and actively participate in the campaign, calling it a collective step towards building a drug-free, healthy and safe Himachal Pradesh. The event has been issued as a public interest initiative.
