Shimla, Apr 18
An avalanche descended upon the serene landscape of Kashang in Kinnaur district, disrupting road communication during the afternoon hours today.
Reports reaching Shimla indicate that the Kashang road now lies impassable, blocked by the formidable mass of snow and debris unleashed by the avalanche. The aftermath of the natural calamity has left a trail of destruction, with significant damage inflicted upon properties, particularly apple orchards, which form the backbone of the local economy.
In response to the crisis, the contractors engaged in the Kashang hydroelectric project have mobilized machinery to clear the road of the obstructing debris and ice. However, the ongoing clearance operations have inevitably impacted the progress of the project, causing delays and logistical challenges.
The repercussions of the avalanche extend beyond infrastructure disruptions. Farmers and apple growers in the region have been severely affected, unable to access their orchards and fields to assess the extent of the damage inflicted upon their livelihoods.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster, efforts are underway to restore normalcy and alleviate the hardships faced by the affected residents.
