Shimla, Jan 2,
Back to ‘Snowposts’ again as more Rain/Snow predicted for coming 4 days. The Himachal Pradesh Police are once again on high alert as fresh spells of rainfall and snowfall are forecasted across the state over the next four days. Despite the usual winter chill, today’s temperatures were unexpectedly warmer by 3-4°C. However, the weather department has warned of inclement weather ahead, with heavy snowfall and rain expected in Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu districts.
In Lahaul Spiti, several major roads remain closed due to heavy snow. The route from Darcha to Shinkunla will remain shut until the summer of 2025, and similarly, the Darcha to Sarchu road is closed for the same period. Other high-altitude routes, such as Koksar to Lossar via Kunzum Top, are also shut, with little hope of reopening until summer. While Keylong to Darcha and Keylong to Atal Tunnel routes are open, drivers must remain cautious due to snow accumulation. The Tandi to Udaipur route remains open, but only for vehicles with snow chains or 4×4 vehicles, and the Udaipur to Tindi, Pangi route is open under similar conditions but closed beyond Tindi.
The weather outlook for the next few days includes light rain and snow in isolated areas, with significant snowfall expected on January 6th. This could result in additional road closures, particularly in the high-altitude regions. Temperatures across the state are forecast to decrease in the coming days, with daytime temperatures expected to drop by 4-5°C, while nighttime temperatures will likely fall by 3-4°C.
