
Shimla, April 26, Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Shimla, emerged victorious at the prestigious Annual Slater Debates 2026, securing the championship after a closely contested and intellectually charged final against Sherwood College, Nainital.
The much-anticipated final showcased high-calibre debating, marked by incisive arguments, sharp rebuttals, and confident delivery from both sides. The BCS team displayed exceptional composure, clarity of thought, and persuasive articulation, ultimately edging past their rivals on home turf to lift the coveted trophy.
Sherwood College delivered a strong performance throughout the contest and was declared runner-up, earning appreciation for its analytical depth and structured presentation.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Jyoti Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group. In her address, she commended the participants for their articulate expression, critical reasoning, and commitment to constructive dialogue.
A key highlight of the evening was the announcement of Rajveer Kochhar as the Best Speaker Overall, recognised for his compelling delivery, confidence, and impactful debating skills.
The event concluded on a celebratory note, with Bishop Cotton School receiving the trophy amid applause. The Slater Debates once again reinforced their legacy as a premier platform for fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and intellectual engagement among students.
