CBSE schools in Himachal to get uniform dress code, colour scheme

Himachal Pradesh government is set to introduce a common dress code for teachers, uniforms for students and a distinct colour scheme for buildings of CBSE schools being run by the State Government, with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directing the Education Department to finalise the modalities at the earliest.
Chairing a meeting of the Education Department here on Monday, the Chief Minister said the dress code for teachers in government-run CBSE schools would be implemented from October 1 this year. The government is also working on finalising a common logo for these schools.
The move is aimed at bringing greater uniformity and discipline among the CBSE schools operated by the State Government. The Chief Minister directed officials to complete the exercise of finalising the dress code, student uniforms, building colour scheme and logo without delay.
Sukhu also stressed the need for ensuring discipline and punctuality in the schools. He said attendance of students and staff would be marked three times a day in these CBSE schools. The measure, he said, would help strengthen monitoring and ensure regular attendance.
The Chief Minister said the State Government was making concerted efforts to provide quality education to students in rural areas through CBSE-affiliated schools. He maintained that these institutions would provide CBSE education at affordable rates, particularly benefiting students from rural areas who otherwise may have to depend on comparatively expensive private CBSE schools.
The government has already appointed teachers in these schools, the Chief Minister said. He directed the Education Department to ensure that any vacancies arising in future were filled on priority so that academic activities were not affected due to shortage of teaching staff.
He asked the department to make all necessary arrangements in advance to ensure uninterrupted teaching and maintain the quality of education in the government-run CBSE schools.
The State Government has been expanding the CBSE school model as part of its efforts to improve educational standards and provide students in rural areas access to a curriculum and educational framework followed by CBSE institutions across the country.
The proposed common identity, including the uniform dress code, school uniform, building colour scheme and logo, is expected to give these government-run CBSE schools a distinct institutional character.
Advocate General Anup Rattan, Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar, Director of School Education Ashish Kohli and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
