Police in Kangra district arrested two youths near Sanaura on the Saraha road with 7.31 grams of heroin on Thursday. One of them was identified as Rajesh Kumar, a Patwari (revenue officer) from Rajera, Chamba district. After learning about his involvement, the Revenue Department immediately suspended him under the Central Civil Services Classification, Control, and Appeal Rules, 1965. Currently, the accused is in police custody.
Rajesh Kumar was appointed as a Patwari in 2019. His arrest for drug possession has shocked the administration. The police are investigating whether he was a drug user or part of a larger drug network.
Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal confirmed his suspension. He stated that if the charges against him are proven, he will be dismissed from his job and face legal action. The administration has made it clear that criminal activities and misconduct will not be tolerated in government services.
