Shimla, Jan 11,
The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a monumental step towards transforming the lives of orphaned children by declaring them “Children of the State.” This groundbreaking initiative reflects the government’s deep commitment to humanity, ensuring that these children, who tragically lost their parents, are nurtured, protected, and provided opportunities to thrive. By assuming the role of a parent, the state has set a remarkable example of inclusive governance, empowering these young lives to dream and succeed.
As part of this revolutionary scheme, 22 children embarked on an enriching educational tour to some of India’s most iconic historical and cultural sites. The journey, flagged off by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on January 2, 2025, from Shimla, provided the children with unparalleled exposure to the country’s rich heritage.
The first stop was Pinjore, where the children marveled at the 17th-century Yadavindra Gardens, a beautiful example of Mughal landscaping. This was followed by a two-day exploration of Chandigarh, where they visited landmarks such as Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, and Capitol Complex. A visit to the Elante Mall, Chandigarh Museum, and Sector 17 Market added modern-day excitement to their learning.
On January 5, the children boarded the Shatabdi Express to New Delhi, an experience that introduced them to the convenience of rail travel and nutritious meals onboard. In Delhi, the group explored Raj Ghat, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and India Gate, gaining a deeper understanding of India’s freedom struggle and architectural brilliance.
The highlight of the tour came on January 7 with a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra. The children were spellbound by its grandeur, describing the moment as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The final leg of the journey included visits to the National Zoological Park, the National Science Centre, and other significant sites in Delhi, sparking their curiosity and broadening their knowledge.
Throughout the journey, the Himachal Pradesh government ensured the children’s comfort, safety, and learning, with the Chief Minister personally monitoring the tour. This initiative exemplifies the state’s dedication to providing not just shelter but also meaningful experiences and education to orphaned children.
By embracing these children as their own, the Himachal Pradesh government has demonstrated a progressive and compassionate approach, turning a humanitarian vision into a tangible reality. Such initiatives not only inspire hope but also build a foundation for a brighter, more inclusive future for every child in the state.
