
CJM Court extends custody of Ashish Sharma’s kin in Illegal Mining Case; SC earlier denied bail
A local court today granted two more days of police remand for the uncle and brother of local BJP MLA Ashish Sharma in the Poong Khad illegal mining case.
Both were produced in Hamirpur court after the Supreme Court denied relief, the two-day remand was granted, an official spokesman said here today.
The investigation into the highly publicized illegal mining case in Pung Khad, Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, has intensified. The court’s strictness appears to be tightening the noose around the accused in this case, which has been going through a lengthy legal process. The two accused, who surrendered to the police on Wednesday evening and were on one-day police remand thereafter after the Supreme Court denied relief, are now being interrogated on police remand.
According to reports, Umesh Sharma and Praveen Sharma, accused in the illegal mining case related to Mahalaxmi Stone Crusher, were produced in the Hamirpur court on Thursday. These two accused are the brother and uncle of Hamirpur Sadar BJP MLA Ashish Sharma. The court has sent both of them on a two-day police remand.
Earlier, they had surrendered in the CJM court, from where they were sent on one-day remand. The accused’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected first by the Himachal Pradesh High Court and later by the Supreme Court. On March 19, 2026, the Supreme Court directed them to surrender within four weeks, following which they surrendered in the court.
SP Hamirpur Balveer Singh Thakur said that police registered a case at the Sujanpur police station regarding illegal mining. The accused were produced in court on Thursday, from where they were sent on a two-day police remand. They will be produced in court again on Saturday
