Congress Leadership rebukes Himachal Minister over Controversial remarks on Vendor identity display

The central leadership of the Congress party has issued a rebuke to Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh regarding his recent comments on the display of name and identity boards by street vendors. After a meeting with Singh, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated, “I have strongly conveyed the sentiments of the Congress party. No minister or party member is allowed to act against the party’s policies and ideology.” Venugopal emphasized that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s politics is centered around love and unity, standing in opposition to hatred.
On Wednesday, Singh, son of six-time Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, suggested that street vendors, particularly those selling food items, may soon be required to display their names and identity cards at their shops. His remarks were interpreted by many as aligning with a similar policy enforced by the Uttar Pradesh government during the Kavad Yatra.
In the meeting, senior Congress leaders expressed concern over Singh’s statement. Following this, on Thursday, the Himachal Pradesh government clarified through an official statement that no decision had been made yet regarding the display of name boards by street vendors, and the policy is still under discussion.
