Shimla, Aug 8,
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh on Thursday expressed concern over the delay in the formation of a new HPCC unit, warning that the prolonged process could dampen the morale of party workers across the state.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on the issue, Singh said many Congress workers, particularly those associated with former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, were “keenly waiting” for the reorganisation.
“We have conveyed our strong concern to the AICC about the prolonged delay. It has badly hurt the morale of party workers,” she said, adding that timely restructuring was essential to keep the cadre motivated.
Singh said she hoped the AICC would soon finalise the new party unit and ensure adequate representation for supporters loyal to “Holly Lodge” — the political base of the late Virbhadra Singh — both in the organisation and the state government.
While there has been speculation over possible changes in the state’s political leadership, Singh dismissed any such demand from her side.
“I stand firmly with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and have never sought his replacement,” she clarified.
The Congress leader further assured that regardless of the high command’s decision, all party workers affiliated with Virbhadra Singh’s legacy would welcome the move and work with the new organisation for the party’s benefit.
It may be recalled that during earlier discussions on appointing a new HPCC chief and inducting new faces into the state government, Singh had expressed some reservations. However, she reiterated today that the priority remains strengthening the organisation and supporting the party’s leadership in the interest of Congress in Himachal Pradesh.
