Deputy Commissioner Lahaul Spiti stated today that Border Road Organization agreed to vacate and return the unused land at the North Portal of the Rohtang Tunnel which would be further used by the district administration to create tourism infrastructure.
In a press statement issued by DC Lahual Spiti Neeraj Kumar said that district administration would assist the BRO to handover the lands for the construction of Shinkula Pass and this pass would be developed as a tourist point for further expansion of tourism activities in the future.
Deputy Commissioner said that with the commissioning of Atal tunnel tourism activities would be getting more impetus and there is unutilized land of BRO at Sissu, on the north portal. The transfer of this land to administration would help to develop and expand the tourism infrastructure on it thus helping the visitors, by providing them more amenities.
This land was given to BRO on the temporary basis for construction of tunnel and now the land is to be returned to the government after achieving the target of the tunnel.
There are proposals to build three more tunnels beyond Keylong on the Manali-Leh strategic highway and efforts are on to get transfer of land to the administration for construction of Shinkula pass tunnel in the given time scheduled developed by the BRO.
The Rohtang and three other new tunnels are likely to be shorten the distance between Manali and Leh by 100 km besides it would provide all weather road connectivity between the two tourist resorts, the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also announced recently.
