Fake policeman arrested in Kullu for extorting money

A shocking case of impersonation has surfaced in ’s Kullu district, where a man posed as a police officer to intimidate people and extort money. The accused has been arrested following swift police action.
The accused has been identified as (34), a resident of Dhalpur in Kullu. He allegedly targeted outsiders, threatening them with legal action while pretending to be a police official and extracting cash.
The incident came to light on March 26, when a Nepali labourer was stopped by the accused and threatened with police action. Under fear, the victim was forced to pay around Rs 5,000. Showing courage, the labourer later lodged a complaint with the police.
Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation and identified the accused through local inquiries and technical inputs. Within two days, he was apprehended.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are currently interrogating him to ascertain whether more people were similarly duped.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any individual demanding money while posing as a government official.
