Shimla/Hamirpur, Nov 20,
A major food safety irregularity has erupted at the revered Deotsidh temple in Hamirpur distrivt of Northern India. Recent laboratory tests have revealed that samples of “rot,” a sacred Prasad offered at the temple, have failed to meet basic health and hygiene standards.
The district food safety department, which initiated the investigation, has confirmed the alarming findings.
Anil Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Food and Safety, has reportedly expressed deep concern over the issue. “The health and safety of devotees is paramount. We will take stringent action against those responsible for the negligence,” he stated in a media statement.
Noteworthy that a few months prior even prasad samples at the reverrred Tirupati Balaji temple in South India came under scanner.
Thereafter now the Deotsidh temple authorities have come under intense scrutiny following the recent revelations.
Devotees and local residents have raised serious questions about the quality control measures in place.
Meanwhile as per a media report Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner and Temple Trust Commissioner Amarjit Singh held a meeting with the Food Safety Department to discuss the issue. It was decided in the meeting that all shopkeepers making “rot” in Deothsidh temple will be brought under the ‘Bhog’ project.
The incident has also sparked debates on the need for stricter regulations and oversight of religious institutions, particularly regarding food safety.
The food safety department is currently investigating the matter further and may impose penalties on the temple management. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to food safety guidelines, even in sacred places.
