In a major academic milestone, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Former Chief Justice of India, has accepted the invitation to serve as a Distinguished Professor at the Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla. The announcement was made by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of HPNLU.
Justice Khanna, who retired as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India on May 13, 2025, has had a longstanding and meaningful association with HPNLU, having earlier served as its Visitor. His acceptance of this academic role is being seen as a significant endorsement of the University’s growing stature in the field of legal education.
Speaking on the development, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Justice Khanna’s association marks not only a great honour but also a transformative milestone for the University. His wisdom, vast experience, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law will significantly enrich our academic and research endeavours.”
Justice Khanna was elevated to the Supreme Court on January 18, 2019, and over the years, earned wide respect for his judicial erudition, administrative clarity, and integrity. His new academic role at HPNLU is expected to foster a deeper culture of research, critical legal thinking, and mentorship for students and faculty alike.
“With his wealth of experience and deep insights into the functioning of the judiciary, his presence will serve as a guiding light for budding legal minds at HPNLU,” added the VC.
