The attack occurred in broad daylight while Thakur was celebrating Holi with his supporters near his residence. Unidentified assailants fired around 12 rounds, injuring Thakur, his personal security officer (PSO) Sanjeev Kumar, and supporter Vishal Sharma.
Thakur was shot in the thigh, while his PSO sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the leg, back, and thigh. Vishal Sharma suffered pellet injuries while trying to protect him.
Following initial treatment in Bilaspur, Thakur was shifted to IGMC Shimla for advanced care, while Sanjeev Kumar was admitted to AIIMS Bilaspur in critical condition. However, police sources have now confirmed that the conditions of all three injured individuals have stabilized.
A massive manhunt was launched immediately after the attack. Security has been tightened across Bilaspur, with teams actively searching for the remaining assailants.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the former MLA’s apartment complex surfaced on social media, providing key evidence in the case. The video shows attackers entering the premises, which was surrounded by parked SUVs. They fired at Thakur from close range before fleeing the scene. Despite being shot, Thakur attempted to chase the assailants but was unable to catch them as they escaped unharmed.
This is not the first attack on Bambar Thakur. In February 2024, he was assaulted outside a railway line construction company’s office, and in June 2024, the prime accused in that case was shot outside Bilaspur court.
The police investigation is ongoing, with more details expected as authorities work to apprehend the remaining attackers.
