SP Jairath/ Nahan, Apr 3,
Putting a rest to all speculations in a recent phone conversation, former Member of Parliament Virender Kashyap, from the Shimla parliamentary constituency, revealed that had been approached by some leaders from the Congress party with an offer to contest elections from the Shimla constituency on a Congress ticket, but he declined. Kashyap disclosed that the Congress leaders expressed a desire for him to join their party, but he turned down the offer.
Kashyap emphasized his long-standing association with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and stated that he has garnered significant respect while being a part of the BJP. He expressed his reluctance to betray the trust placed in him by his party.
Kashyap further mentioned that he explicitly rejected the Congress leaders’ proposition, citing his incapacity to align with the Congress party. This decision reportedly disappointed the Congress party.
Additionally, Kashyap denounced the propaganda being circulated by certain Congress leaders about him, labeling it as baseless and untrustworthy. He urged the public not to place any faith in the misinformation being spread about him by Congress members.
Noteworthy that news has been circulation about Kashyap joining Congress to contest the ongoing Lok sabha as the grand old party candidate from Shimla parliamentary constituency.
In the 2009 election Kashyap was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Shimla constituency in Himachal Pradesh. He was again elected as an MP from Shimla constituency in Himachal Pradesh in Indian General Election 2014. Later in 2019, he was sidelined to make way for Suresh Kashyap, who was given the BJP ticket for Lok Sabha.
