Mandi, Nov. 16,
Investigation into the brutal acid attack and physical assault on a woman in Sain Mohalla, Mandi, has intensified, with a forensic team deployed to examine the scene and collect evidence.
The victim, Mamta, remains in critical condition at AIIMS Bilaspur after suffering severe acid burns and injuries from a fall.
According to a statement issued by the Mandi Police, information about a quarrel in the neighbourhood was received at Police Post City on Friday evening.
Acting promptly, a police team reached the spot and recorded the complainant’s statement. Based on her account, an FIR (No. 289/25) under Sections 109 and 124(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Police Station Sadar against the accused Nand Lal, 49, a resident of Sain Mohalla.
During the investigation, it emerged that Nand Lal went to his wife’s room on the second floor and allegedly threw acid on her. In a desperate attempt to escape through the window, Mamta was pushed by the accused, causing her to fall from the second floor.
She sustained extensive acid burns across a substantial portion of her body in addition to serious injuries from the fall.
She was initially rushed to Zonal Hospital Mandi for first aid and later shifted to AIIMS Bilaspur for specialised treatment. Doctors have declared her unfit to give a statement due to the severity of her condition.
The forensic team has inspected the spot and collected material evidence, including samples crucial to determining the nature and source of the acid. Police stated that further investigation is in progress and all aspects of the incident are being thoroughly examined.
