Shimla, April 27,
A sharp rise in temperatures across Himachal Pradesh has triggered a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in Una and Kullu districts, with the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, warning of intensifying heat over the next few days.
According to the IMD’s latest nowcast bulletin (April 27, 1200 hrs), heatwave conditions are likely at isolated places in Una and Kullu, while weather is expected to remain largely normal across the rest of the state. The advisory places the region under a “watch” category, highlighting moderate health risks, especially for vulnerable groups.
Data from the department shows that Una recorded a scorching 41.8°C on Sunday, the highest temperature in the state, with departures around 5°C above normal.
According to IMD recorded earlier Una was 43.2 degrees on April 30, 2022 which was deven degrees above normal.
Other stations also reflected the rising trend, including Bhuntar (34.9°C, +5°C deviation) and Kangra (36.6°C, +7°C deviation), indicating widespread heat stress across low and mid hill regions.
Even Shimla, which typically remains below 24°C in April, recorded 27.2°C, nearly 4°C above normal, underscoring the unusual warming trend.

The IMD has cautioned that hot winds (loo) may intensify the situation, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, crop damage and stress on livestock.
Residents have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, especially during afternoon hours. Wearing light-coloured, loose cotton clothing and covering the head while outdoors is recommended. Adequate hydration is essential.
Farmers are urged to ensure regular irrigation and moisture conservation to protect crops from heat stress. Livestock owners should provide shade, proper ventilation and sufficient drinking water, as high temperatures can adversely affect milking animals and overall productivity.
With temperatures expected to rise further, authorities have called for caution and preparedness to minimise the impact of the ongoing heatwave.
