Kangra/Shimla, Nov 15,
The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the State government to provide detailed information on statutory compliances for the ongoing land acquisition process for the expansion of Gaggal Airport.
The directive came in response to a petition filed by the Gaggal Airport Expansion Affected Social Welfare Committee, which challenges the acquisition process. The committee alleges that the State government has not fulfilled necessary requirements and permissions.
The court’s order stems from the State government’s application to withdraw an earlier undertaking that assured no dispossession or demolition within the notified area. While the Supreme Court allowed the State to seek withdrawal, the High Court has now sought clarity on the current status of the acquisition process.
Senior Advocate Rita Goswami, representing the petitioner, raised concerns about specific non-compliance issues, emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to legal procedures. The State government, on the other hand, maintains that all necessary permissions have been obtained.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 25, 2024, where the State is expected to provide a detailed affidavit outlining the compliance status.
