Himachal announces State Teachers Awards-2026 for 21 educators on eve of Teachers’ Day

Himachal Pradesh government has announced the HP State Teachers Awards-2026 for 26 educators, with five college principals and faculty members being included in the awards announced by the Higher Education Department on the eve of Teachers’ Day.
In a notification dated September 3, the Department of Higher Education said the Governor of Himachal Pradesh was pleased to grant the HP State Teachers Award-2026 to five Principal/Faculty members of government degree colleges for their outstanding services in the field of education and for taking special interest in teaching students.
The five awardees from the higher education sector are Dr. Pankaj Bostia, Principal, Government Degree College (GDC), Rampur; Dr. Harbans Lal Sharma, Principal, GDC Jukhala, Bilaspur; Dr. Samjeet Singh Thakur, Assistant Professor (Chemistry), NSCBM GDC Hamirpur; Dr. Prashant Raman Ravi, Assistant Professor (Hindi), GDC Chamba; and Ravi Kant, Assistant Professor (Chemistry), GDC Nadaun, Hamirpur. The notification has directed the Director of Higher/School Education to take further necessary action to confer the awards under the Principal (College Cadre) and College Faculty categories.
The five college-level awards come in addition to the 21 State Teachers Awards announced for school education, taking the total number of State Teachers Award-2026 recipients to 26.
Among the 21 school education awardees, 15 have been selected for the General Award (Non-Tribal/Hard Area), while six have been chosen for the Special Award (Non-Tribal/Hard Area).
The General Award recipients are Tilak Raj, Lecturer (Chemistry), GSSS Balakrupi, Kangra; Ajay Kumar, Lecturer (Economics), DCGSSS Kothi, Kinnaur; Kiran Kumar, DM, GMS Yangpa-II, Kinnaur; Jagdish Kumar, DPE, GSSS Auhar, Bilaspur; Rohan Lal, DPE, GUSSS Rajgarh, Mandi; Rakesh Kumar, DPE, GSSS Kalpa, Kinnaur; Rakesh Singh, PET, GHS Manjehli, Hamirpur; Poornima Kumari, TGT (M), GSSS Jalari, Hamirpur; Khechok Zangpo, TGT (NM), GSSS Gulling, Lahaul & Spiti; Chaman Lal, JBT, GPS Nandla, Shimla; Shrishti Sharma, JBT, GPS Prem Nagar, Sirmaur; Lokinder Singh, CHT, PM GCPS Portmore, Shimla; Sanjay Kumar Negi, JBT, GPS Khadura, Kinnaur; Manoj Kumar, JBT, GPS Khonta, Pangi, Kinnaur; and Inder Prakash, JBT, GCPS Khuanghi, Kinnaur.
The Special Award has been conferred on Roshni Devi, CHT, GCPS Rajpura, Solan; Sarika Ahuja, Principal, GSSS Sarog, Shimla; Balwant Jhouta, Lecturer (Political Science), TRL Government Girls School of Sports, Jubbal, Shimla; Snehlata, Lecturer (Political Science), GSSS Morsinghi, Bilaspur; Lalit Kumar, Lecturer (Political Science), PM Shri GSSS Pangna, Mandi; and Virender Chauhan, Principal, DIET, Shimla.
The school education notification was issued by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, IAS, on September 3, a day ahead of Teachers’ Day, while the separate Higher Education Department notification also bears the signature of Rakesh Kanwar as Secretary (Education) to the Himachal Pradesh government.
The latest notification is significant as it brings college teachers and principals into the State Teachers Awards-2026 announcement, with the Higher Education Department specifically categorising the five recipients into College Principal and College Faculty (Assistant/Associate Professor) categories.
