Shimla, Dec 27,
The Government of Himachal Pradesh has declared seven days of state mourning from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, as a mark of respect for the late Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi.
During the mourning period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the state, and all forms of official entertainment and celebrations have been suspended.
Reportedly even the winter Carnival events on the Ridge of Shimla have been called off. However any official confirmation in the matter is awaited.
As a further gesture of respect, the state government has announced that all government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions will remain closed on December 27 and 28, 2024. These two days will also be treated as paid holidays for daily wage employees working in state government establishments.
