Routes like Darcha to Shinkula, Darcha to Sarchu, Koksar to Manali via Rohtang, and Koksar to Losar via Kunzum Top have been closed until summer 2025. Other crucial roads — Keylong to Darcha, Keylong to Atal Tunnel, Atal Tunnel to Manali, Tandi to Udaipur, and Udaipur to Tindi — remain blocked due to heavy snow.
In Spiti, the Kaza to Losar stretch is also impassable, while Sumdo to Kaza remains open. Meanwhile, NH-05 at Narkanda is buried under heavy snowfall, forcing traffic to divert via Luhri and Sunni. An avalanche near Dhundhi Bridge has further worsened the situation, and authorities have strongly advised travelers to avoid this route.
The weather department has issued a Level 3 (Orange) avalanche warning for Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, and Kullu, with avalanches likely above 2300 meters. This advisory remains in effect until 5:00 PM on February 28, 2025.
Heavy snowfall is expected to persist in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, while moderate snowfall is likely in Chamba, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, and Kullu. Districts like Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, and lower areas of other regions are bracing for moderate rain.
The harsh weather has already led to poor visibility, slippery roads, and the disruption of essential services across the state. Authorities are urging people to avoid non-essential travel, especially in avalanche-prone areas, and strictly follow local advisories. With roads becoming treacherous, driving cautiously is crucial to prevent skidding and accidents.
As per the situation, evacuations have begun in the most affected regions. Tosh village in Manikaran Valley has been partially evacuated, and tourists and hotel guests near the Parvati River at Jeera Nalah have been moved to safer locations. Essential services are being mobilized to provide relief and support to stranded residents. With snowfall expected to continue, Himachal Pradesh remains on alert. Residents and travelers are advised to stay indoors, avoid outdoor activities, and stay updated with official warnings and advisories.
