Himachal Pradesh in excessive rain crisis: CM Sukhu leads rescue efforts

In the face of incessant rainfall wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh for over 48 hours, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has taken charge, personally overseeing the situation and coordinating rescue efforts. The State government’s spokesperson confirmed that the Chief Minister has been in constant contact with district authorities, ensuring the provision of immediate relief to the affected population.
Late in the evening on Sunday, Chief Minister Sukhu held discussions with all Deputy Commissioners, assessing the extent of the damage and issuing necessary instructions for prompt relief efforts. Displaying his unwavering commitment, Sukhu stayed awake throughout the night until 4 am, closely monitoring the rescue operations aimed at safely evacuating stranded individuals.
Recognizing the need for regional collaboration, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar spoke with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday evening, seeking assistance for Haryana residents stranded in different parts of Himachal Pradesh. Assuring Khattar of his personal attention, Sukhu pledged to address the matter and provide directions to local authorities for their safe evacuation.
With a keen eye on the rescue operations, Chief Minister Sukhu closely monitored the situation in Mandi district, where six individuals were stranded in Nagwain. Thanks to the combined efforts of the rescue team and district administration, all six were successfully rescued at 2 am. Sukhu commended their tireless dedication.

Additionally, Sukhu oversaw the rescue of 29 individuals trapped in Manali’s potato ground. By 8 am, the rescue team had safely evacuated all those stranded. In Lahaul and Spiti district, about 200 tourists near Chandertal Lake faced a similar predicament. The Chief Minister ensured that rescue efforts were being undertaken promptly, emphasizing the provision of adequate food, medicines, and essential items to the stranded tourists.

Expressing his deep concern for the affected population, Chief Minister Sukhu stated, “I have directed the state administration to ensure all possible measures regarding the rescue of stranded people. I am constantly in touch with the local authorities and public representatives, personally monitoring the situation. Our government stands with the people of the state during this distressing time. I appeal to the people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay away from streams and rivers.”
