Shimla, Oct 5,
In a positive development for road safety, Himachal Pradesh recorded a substantial decrease in the number of road accidents from January to September 2024, as shared by ASP TTR Narvir Singh Rathour. The state witnessed 1,524 accidents during this period, a significant improvement compared to the 1,685 accidents recorded in 2023.
This reduction is being attributed to a multi-pronged strategy involving stricter traffic law enforcement, better road engineering, and comprehensive public awareness campaigns. The Himachal Pradesh Traffic Police, in collaboration with other stakeholders, has intensified efforts to make roads safer through enhanced field operations, regular checks on reckless driving, and enforcement of speed limits and helmet laws.
Road engineering improvements, including better signage, road widening, and removal of blind spots, have also played a crucial role. Furthermore, awareness campaigns targeting drivers, especially in accident-prone zones, have helped in sensitizing the public to the importance of responsible driving.
Authorities are optimistic that the downward trend in accident numbers will continue through the remainder of the year. The efforts of the traffic police, in conjunction with civil society and other government departments, demonstrate the impact of a coordinated approach in addressing road safety challenges.
“The progress we’ve made so far is promising, but there’s still work to be done. We are committed to further reducing the number of accidents and ensuring safer roads for all,” ASP Singh stated.
The focus now remains on sustaining these efforts and ensuring that every citizen plays their part in contributing to road safety.
