Shmla, Sept 9,
A teacher in Himachal Pradesh had to face legal consequences for hosting her son’s wedding ceremony on the premises of a government primary school. In a recent court ruling, the teacher was ordered to install two water purifiers on the school campus as a penalty for actions.
The incident occurred in November 2021 at Government Primary School Jahu Kalan in Sulgawan village. Local resident Shashikant filed a complaint with the school administration and the Block Elementary Education department, alleging that the teacher had used the school grounds for a private event.
Despite initial investigations, no action was taken against the teacher. However, Shashikant persisted and filed a petition with the Himachal Pradesh High Court in April 2022. The court referenced a previous ruling from 2012 that prohibited political or private events on government school grounds.
When the matter was heard in court, the teacher admitted wrongdoing and apologized. Justice Ajay Mohan Goyal ordered the respondent teacher to install two RO water purifiers within four weeks. The court also directed the retired headmaster of the school to appear in court for further proceedings.
The case is set to continue on October 18, where the court will examine the involvement of education department officials and determine if the retired headmaster should face contempt of court charges.
