Shimla, Aug 18,
Incessant rainfall triggered flash floods in parts of Sirmaur district, leaving behind a trail of destruction across villages and industrial units. The Himalayan Pinegold Resin and Chemicals, located in Sainwala Panchayat, was among the worst-hit, suffering damage estimated at around Rs 1 crore after floodwaters entered both its units.
Confirming the losses, Panchayat Pradhan Sandipak said the deluge damaged both state and private property, with local residents struggling to recover from the devastation.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nahan, Rajiv Sankhyan, informed that at least 10 houses in Agdiwala village have been partially damaged. “Officials have been sent to assess the situation and temporary shelters are being arranged for the affected families,” he said.
The floods also swept away several drums filled with turpentine oil, while another major industrial unit in the Panchayat, Rana Food Industry, reported staggering losses of nearly Rs 8 crore. The factory premises, filled with 7–8 feet of water, saw heavy damage to machinery and stock. Management officials, already reeling from a similar disaster earlier, described the back-to-back floods as a severe setback.
Meanwhile, in Agdiwala village of Matar Panchayat, more than a dozen houses have developed deep cracks due to landslides. Fearing collapse, many families have abandoned their homes and are spending nights under the open sky. Locals allege that timely relief from the administration has been lacking, heightening fears of homelessness.
