HP high court rejects bail plea of Doctor for outraging religious feelings
Shimla, July 27
On Thursday, the Himachal Pradesh High Court denied anticipatory bail to, an accused doctor in a case involving the outrage of religious feelings and derogatory comments against Lord Shiva and God Nandi Ji in a recent Facebook post.
The Una police had filed an FIR against one Nadeem Akhtar under sections 295A, 153A, and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In rejecting the bail plea, Justice Virender Singh pointed out that accused is not an ordinary individual but an educated person who should be well aware of the potential impact of his alleged post and comments.
The court emphasized the importance of respecting the religious beliefs of others while living in a society, stating that it is the responsibility of all individuals.
Petitioner argued that his arrest would cause hardship to him and his family and could tarnish his reputation and goodwill as a doctor. He is a qualified ophthalmologist who has been running a private clinic in Mehatpur for over twenty years, providing services as a doctor. Furthermore, Akhtar claimed to be a law-abiding citizen who respects all religions and argued that the contents of the FIR are based on a misconception.
