Himachal Pradesh has received 9 per cent below-normal rainfall during the ongoing southwest monsoon season, according to the latest rainfall statistics compiled by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The data indicates considerable variation in rainfall distribution across the state’s districts, with some recording excess rainfall while others continue to face significant deficits.
Kinnaur has recorded 28 per cent excess rainfall, while Kullu and Shimla have each received 23 per cent above-normal rainfall. Chamba has registered 17 per cent excess rainfall, and Una has received 2 per cent more rainfall than normal.
The overall rainfall deficiency has been driven largely by below-normal precipitation in several districts. Lahaul and Spiti has recorded the highest deficit at 50 per cent below normal, followed by Hamirpur (42 per cent), Mandi (27 per cent), Kangra (20 per cent), Sirmaur (10 per cent), Solan (7 per cent) and Bilaspur (6 per cent) below the seasonal average.
On the other hand, a number of districts have received above-normal rainfall during the monsoon period.
The recent spell of rainfall has also brought down day temperatures across many parts of the state. The sharpest fall in maximum temperature was recorded at Neri in Hamirpur district, where it declined by 5.4 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours.
Other notable changes included Una, where the maximum temperature dropped by 4.2 degrees to 30.8°C, Bilaspur, where it fell by 3.5 degrees to 29.0°C, and Manali, where the maximum temperature settled at 25.0°C after a decline of 3.2 degrees.

The rainfall pattern reflects the uneven progress of the monsoon across Himachal Pradesh, with the higher and tribal districts witnessing contrasting rainfall trends compared to several lower hill districts.
Despite the overall seasonal deficit, intermittent rainfall during recent days has helped improve moisture conditions in parts of the state.
