Shimla, May 27
Around 4500 drivers of Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation who had threatened to go on statewide ‘Kam chhordo’ from May 30 have called off the action. The same was done after the State government considered their demands. The consultation was held at the state Secretariat last evening between Transport Minister Vikram Thakur and State Driver Unions President Mann Singh, who decided to end the stalemate.
The HRTC management accepted both the main demands of the employees in the meeting. They assured the drivers’ new pay scale to be released with the salary of June 2022 and would also release the 35 months pending overtime to HRTC drivers and conductors with effect from July 2022. Minister promised the Union release of two months over time together with employees’ salary so that pendency of overtime could be overcome.
Earlier on May 24, the talk between HRTC management and Union failed as the two could not deadlock on the demands. It is worthwhile to mention that the HRTC union had given the call to go on ‘Kam Chhordo’ strike from the night ending on May 29, two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shimla visit.
The State government was under tremendous pressure to thaw the deadlock immediately as many buses have been booked by the ruling party to ferry the party workers to Shimla from all over the state in the May 31 rally at Ridge ground.
