Chamba (Pangi) Feb 13
Due to recent snowfall a Rescue operation had to be carried out by the Indian Air Force with the help of Administration in the Pangi valley, which is situated in the tribal Chamba district of the State. The operation was conducted between February 9 to February 13, this year.
Residential Commissioner Pangi Balwan Chand said that in view of the present circumstances, a demand was made from the government to provide air service for the convenience of the people.  A helicopter facility was provided to the people of the valley to take them out of the valley, in case of emergency.
He said that during the operation, a total of 82 people were taken from Killar (Pangi) to Bhuntar (Kullu) and from Bhuntar (Kullu) to Kilar (Pangi). Among the evecuated included patients, old people, children and employees of various offices.
This operation was carried out under the leadership of Wing Commander Sailesh Singh of the Air Force. Wing Commander Singh said that in areas like Pangi mercury dips to minus 15 to 20 degrees and they become inaccessible. The Indian Air Force is always ready to render its services to such areas from time to time.
He informed that the advanced Light Helicopter in operation was carried out with help of ALH and Mi -17V, total 5 helicopters was being used to the conduct rescue operation.
On the other hand locals thanked the administration for cooperation and expressed happiness.
