Indian Mountaineer Baljeet Kaur from Himachal Pradesh goes missing during Annapurna expedition

Baljeet Kaur, a renowned mountaineer from Himachal Pradesh, has gone missing suddenly on her expedition to Annapurna peak in Nepal. Her family confirmed the news. Reports arriving suggest that another climber, Noel Hana from Northern Ireland, also lost his life during the expedition.
Reportedly, Kaur lost went missing near Camp IV while descending down the peak. A media report from Nepal on Tuesday quoted expedition organiser Pasang Sherpa as saying that Baljeet Kaur went missing above Camp IV while she was descending from the top as she scaled the peak without using supplemental oxygen. “We sent three helicopters to find Baljeet,” Sherpa said. According to him, the fate of the climber was still unknown, the report said.
Kaur, the daughter of a retired Himachal Road Transport Corporation driver, highly respected in the mountaineering community. Kaur hails from Mamligh in Solan district of the hill state.
She made history by becoming the first Indian woman to conquer Mount Dhaulagiri, which stands at an impressive 8,167m. Kaur had her sights set on Mount Everest and had embarked on a Mount Annapurna expedition (8,091m) on March 28.
Annapurna is the tenth-highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,091 metres above sea level.
In March 2021, Kaur from Himachal Pradesh achieved a remarkable feat of becoming the only Indian to climb five 8,000-metre peaks in a single season.

Kaur’s climbing journey began in 2015 when she was selected as one of 10 young mountaineers from an NCC group to summit Mount Trishul, which stands at 7,120m.
