Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri government Medical College and Hospital Nerchowk finally got long awaited recommendation for Covid-19 testing from PGI Chandigarh. After the recommendation of mentor institute PGI Chandigarh, the ICMR has to provide final approval for Corona sample testing in Medical College and now College administration awaits for ICMR permission to run real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction lab in campus.
On April 11, the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi signed a memorandum of understanding with SLBSGMCH Nerchowk for sport to set up a real time PCR lab to tackle the covid-19 in region. IIT Mandi has provided real time PCR machine and technical support to Medical College and then the institution applied to ICMR for permission to run this lab.
Currently Medical College does not have this permission however during the current condition; they have done a commendable job in direction to of COVID-19 patient’s treatment. PGI Chandigarh recommended Nerchowk Medical College to start this laboratory as mentor Institute. Till now Medical College does not have this facility and all samples of COVID-19 were sent to Tanda Medical College which was time consuming and expensive.
The Medical Superintendent of Shri Lal bahadur Shastri Medical College Nerchowk Dr Devendra Sharma said that it is good news that Medical College got recommendation of PGI Chandigarh to run COVID-19 lab in its campus. After getting the permission of mentor institution PGI we are hopeful to finally get approval from ICMR, he added.
