The Congress party’s women wing, under the leadership of Alka Lamba, staged a vigorous protest against BJP MLA Dr. Hansraj from Churah constituency in Chamba district. The protest march began from Rajiv Bhavan at 11 AM on Tuesday and concluded outside the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly after being addressed by the Chief Minister. CM Sukhu assured appropriate action in the matter after which the women wing also handed him over a memorandum of this demand. The protest was in response to serious allegations made against Hansraj by a 20-year-old woman, who is the daughter of a BJP booth president.
Addressing the media, Alka Lamba, the National President of the Congress Women’s Wing, declared their unwavering support for the victim, vowing to secure justice for her. Lamba emphasized that Congress women are united in their resolve and will not rest until justice is served.
Lamba highlighted that the Congress party has launched a nationwide “Nyaya Andolan” (Justice Movement) focusing on women’s rights, and this protest in Himachal Pradesh is part of that broader campaign. She expressed concern over the allegations against the BJP MLA, which include inappropriate behavior and the demand for explicit photos. Despite the victim retracting her statement under alleged pressure, Lamba affirmed that the Congress Women’s Wing will continue to fight for justice and ensure no daughter is subjected to such injustice.
The victim, in her complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Chamba, accused Dr. Hansraj of using inappropriate language and making indecent demands during online conversations. The complaint further stated that the MLA’s associates pressured her to delete the chat history to erase evidence. Though the victim later retracted her statement, citing pressure as the reason, the Congress Women’s Wing remains committed to bringing the truth to light.
Alka Lamba also indicated plans to discuss women’s safety and representation in the state government with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. She stressed that ensuring women’s security and participation in governance is a priority for the Congress party.

Though the complainant, who is a resident of Nera village in Churah, later retracted her statement, citing pressure as the reason. Despite this, the Congress Women’s Wing continues to pursue justice for the victim, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the need for accountability.
