Shimla, Aug 27
All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba has demanded the immediate arrest of BJP MLA and former Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Hansraj, for his alleged involvement in a crime against a woman.
Speaking at a press conference held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Lamba criticized the BJP for attempting to resolve the issue at the party level, emphasizing that the matter involves a serious crime that should be handled by law enforcement.
Lamba stated that Hansraj has no moral right to participate in the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Vidhan Sabha and should instead be in custody. She warned that if the police fail to take swift action, the Mahila Congress will stage a protest and cordon off the Vidhan Sabha. She also plans to meet with the Chief Minister to press for action against Hansraj.
Lamba further criticized BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda for attempting to handle the issue internally, calling it a crime against women that cannot be settled through party negotiations. She demanded that the police confiscate Hansraj’s mobile phone and conduct a thorough investigation, insisting that the matter cannot be resolved by simply withdrawing the victim’s complaint.
A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Mahila Police Station after a BJP worker’s daughter accused Hansraj of sending her obscene WhatsApp messages. However, the victim later made a statement in court retracting her allegations, stating she no longer wished to press charges. Lamba condemned the lack of police action against Hansraj and asserted that the Mahila Congress would not allow the matter to be swept under the rug without a proper trial.
The Mahila Congress President emphasized that Hansraj must face trial for his alleged crime, and failure to do so will result in continued protests by her party.
