Shimla, July 15
During a visit to Rohru, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh emphasized the Himachal Pradesh government’s commitment to strict action against contractors who delay government projects. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Late Virbhadra Singh Memorial Panchayat level volleyball competition at Sports Club Dhakgaon, Singh declared that the state, not contractors, drives governance.
“Contractors who habitually delay their projects will face severe consequences, including blacklisting,” Singh asserted. This firm stance aims to ensure the timely completion of essential infrastructure projects, particularly crucial during the apple season when road connectivity is vital.
Highlighting recent developments, Singh announced the renovation of the 12 km road from Badhiyar to Dhakgaon through NABARD funds. He assured the public that he would revisit the area only once the construction work commenced. Additionally, efforts to clear roads during the rainy season will be prioritized to facilitate the apple harvest.
The youngest cabinet member of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government, Singh also addressed employment and self-employment initiatives. He noted that the state government had created 30,000 government sector jobs in the past 18 months and revived the pending recruitment process for Junior Office Assistants (JOA).
In a significant move to support local businesses, Singh announced that only Himachal Pradesh residents would be permitted to operate homestays. Non-Himachalis running such ventures would need to pay state taxes. This decision followed recommendations from a cabinet subcommittee led by Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan.
The minister also promised financial support for local women’s groups and expanded bus routes, reflecting the government’s dedication to comprehensive regional development.
