Monsoon may hit Kerala on June 7, Below-normal rains expected in HP & NW Himalayas

According to the Chief of the Indian Meteorological Department, D.S. Pai, the South West Monsoon is expected to reach Kerala by June 7, with a slight delay of two to three days compared to the normal progression. However, he mentioned that the monsoon is likely to advance in central India in its usual pattern, while Himachal Pradesh and the North Western Himalayas will experience its arrival towards the end of June.
Pai highlighted that the North Western Himalayas and central India are currently experiencing a good amount of Western Rainfall, and additional Western Disturbances (WDs) are expected to bring relief from the heatwave during May. However, he also noted that Himachal Pradesh is anticipated to receive below normal rainfall compared to the long period average (LPA) during the upcoming monsoon season. Similarly, other North-western Himalayan states, which typically receive monsoon rainfall in the later stages, are also expected to have less precipitation than normal.
