The Monsoon Session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly would commence on August 21 and continue till September 3, with a total of 10 sittings scheduled during the period.
Announcing the session on Saturday, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said the 12th session of the 14th Legislative Assembly would begin at 11:00 am on August 21.
He said the Assembly Secretariat had issued the notification for convening the session following the recommendation of the Governor.
Pathania said the House would also meet on Saturday, August 22, to facilitate the legislative business of the session. However, there will be no sittings on August 28, 29 and 30.
He said August 28 has been kept free on account of Raksha Bandhan, while no sitting will be held on August 29, being a Saturday. The Assembly will also remain closed on August 30.
The Speaker informed that August 27 has been earmarked as the Private Members’ Working Day, during which Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions may be taken up in accordance with the Assembly’s rules and procedures.
He said that with the issuance of the session notification, Members of the Legislative Assembly can now submit notices relating to questions, calling attention motions, resolutions and other constituency-related matters to the Assembly Secretariat.
The notices can be filed both through the offline mode and the online system, enabling legislators to place public issues before the House in a timely manner.
The forthcoming Monsoon Session is expected to witness discussions on important legislative business, financial matters and issues of public concern.
The session would also provide an opportunity for the Opposition to seek accountability from the government on various administrative and developmental issues affecting the state, while the government is expected to introduce official business and respond to matters raised by members.
It is worthwhile to mention that new Deputy Speaker likely to be elected in session as Congress President Vinay Kumar has resigned from this post recently.
