Shimla police stated this afternoon that town is currently facing congestion in the traffic and availability of parking as large number of tourists and new year traveler have choked the town leading to unavailability of parking lots and slow pace of traffic on major roads.
Issuing traffic advisory to the general public and tourists Superintendent of Police Shimla Mohit Chawala said that since 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs around 8000 vehicles entered the town and just 4306 departed or checked out the hospitality units to their destinations.
In half hourly traffic info released at 1530 hrs by SP said that traffic was running with slow pace in Victory Tunnel, lift Sanjauli, and Dhali. and with running pace at Tutikandi, Chotta Shimla, Lakkar Bazzar and Panthaghati.
Parking space was available at Tutikandi parking for 790 vehicles till 630 hrs however parking at Winterfield, Lift and HHH were full. Parking space for vehicles is available at Sanjauli for 45 vehicles and Chotta Shimla for 210 vehicles.
Issuing tips to tourists Shimla police advised people to park vehicle at designated parking lots because if vehicle is wrongly parked it shall be towed away. Public places should be left before 2200 hrs till 0600 hrs.
Since the Night curfew is imposed in the town between 2200 hrs to 0600 hrs no tourists, local people and travellers are permitted on the public places including Ridge ground and Mall road and late night stay or public celebration is banned due to Covid protocol the advisory issued by the police said.
The Shimla town which attracted more than 50,0000 tourists and new year footfall may invite the police action if the prohibitory orders would not be followed. The celebration remained mainly peaceful however the public nuisance and drinking may invite police action in untoward cases.
